With more than 22.000 employees at 38 production sites Nemak has been driving the development and production of innovative aluminium components for the automotive industries. Nemak’s product portfolio contains, among others complex parts like cylinder heads, engine blocks, transmission cases and structural components, as well as solutions for e-mobility. This project will be hosted by the RnD team of the Product Development Center (PDC) of the company in Linz. Internal stresses occurs during processing of aluminium castings and their prediction is critical to properly define the correct quenching and heat treatment parameters. Safety factors and experience are critical in the casting design. That is why internal stresses have been a very important research topic for Nemak Linz since many years from the experimental development to the optimization of material models for internal stresses prediction. Reliable experimental values are the key to a successful simulation for components design.
